Deciding to start counseling can be a difficult task. However many people have found it easier when they knew what to expect from counseling. People come to counseling because they want something to be different in their lives. They may want to solve a particular problem, resolve old or current hurts, change their personal or family situation, or simply bring a healthier balance into their lives.
If a problem was serious enough for you to seek professional help, the problem has probably taken a long time to develop and will probably take a while to resolve. Your total number of counseling sessions will depend on the types of issues you are working on and the treatment goals you set. Counseling sessions are usually scheduled for fifty (50) minutes.
The first few times we meet we'll be discussing the personal and social history of you, your child, your spouse or partner, or significant other(s) involved in counseling with you. To facilitate this process, all clients need to fill out an intake form(s) before our first counseling session. These intake forms are designed to let me know a little bit about you and what prompted you to begin counseling. The Child Intake Form is for clients under 12 years old. For clients 12-18 years old please fill out both the Child Intake Form and the Youth Intake Form. I will need an Adult-Couples Intake Form filled out by both individuals participating in couples counseling.
Please go to the "Links & Forms" link to download the pdf versions of the applicable intake forms. Please complete and bring the applicable intake form(s) to your first session.
